The history of Racing Pigeon Club of Angeles (Philippines)(RCPA) is the former (ACPRA) Angeles City Pigeon Racing Association, (RCPA) is nostalgic and inspiring all the fanciers here in Angeles City. The pioneers led by Richard Caparas, first Presiding BOD,Adrian Suarez, first Secretary,Renan Agustin,first Treasurer ,Mike Yabut, Programmer & Officer, Elmer Castaneda, first BOD, Roland Salunga, first BOD of ( RCPA) triumphed over the seemingly insurmountable odds when (RCPA) was still at its infancy stage. They, a member of the Racing Pigeon Club of Angeles(Philippines) established in 2007, actively participated in the club races. The club was organized and supported by Carmelo “Jon” Lazatin II and with the support of other members.
Mr. Castaneda and the other officer decided to change the name (ACPRA) to (RCPA) for some reasons. With the help of other officers and members the club remains as strong as other club organizations here in the Philippines.
There is one individual who purchased racing pigeons from other countries who became one of the pillars of RPCA. Mr. Rey So. His stocks definitely improved the local breeds available during that time. In 2007, Racing Pigeon Club of Angeles (RPCA) was established. It was affiliated with Angeles City Pigeon Racing Association in the same year. 8 determined individuals formed the core of the association. They are: Richard Caparas, Adrian Suarez, Renan Agustin, Michael Yabut, Elmer Castaneda, Roland Salunga, and Rowel Gagui.
All of these men pooled their resources and interests together. The club encountered some problems with the other individuals. It was only in 2009 when the club was formally registered with the Securities & Exchange Commission as a non-stock organization. There were 200 active members who held regular races in Southern Luzon- Naga, Legazpi, Sorsogon, Matnog, Calbayog, and Tacloban and races in northern Luzon- Santiago Isabela, Ilagan, Tuguegarao, Vigan, Laog, Burgos, and Aparri. Using a truck trains, a thousand pigeons in were entered.
A significant improvement in the manner of determining winner was made in 2009. With the use of GPS (Global Positioning System), accurate distances between point of release and members loft were introduced. The Mobile remained as the gadget for texting the secret no. to system.
With the combination of young and old fanciers mutually energetic and enterprising, the association has undergone a series of changes to promote the sport in the Philippines. From an initial of 500 birds, the entries had doubled the no. of entries. The members can now enjoy the conveniences of a new training truck. Modern timers are now utilized alleviating the problems of the race officials.
